Authorities in Pakistan are considering a shift to a daily pricing mechanism for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), moving away from the traditional monthly determination schedule.
Surging Fuel Costs
The prospective policy revision comes amid steep increases in fuel costs across the country, with individual cylinder prices reportedly crossing the Rs. 10,000 mark. The surge has seen localized rates climb to Rs. 750, prompting scrutiny over the existing regulatory structure.
Shift to Daily Pricing Framework
Under the mechanism being considered, LPG rates would no longer remain fixed over a monthly cycle. Instead, prices would be recalibrated on a day-to-day basis in response to prevailing market factors.
Formal modalities and regulatory guidelines for implementing daily revisions remain subject to ongoing deliberations as authorities evaluate options to address rapid fluctuations in the domestic energy sector.
