The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has outlined a proposed initiative to support at least 20 women-led technology startups every year. The project, designated as the Women Innovation and Startup Empowerment (WISE) Lab, is designed to encourage female entrepreneurship and expand women’s active involvement in Pakistan’s evolving digital landscape.
Empowering Sustainable Technology Ventures
Under the proposed framework, the WISE Lab will offer structured assistance to help female founders cultivate their business concepts. The program focuses on taking early-stage ideas and refining them into commercially viable, sustainable technology enterprises.
By establishing this platform, the ministry seeks to bridge critical gaps that have traditionally hindered female entrepreneurs in the technology sector. Key obstacles identified include limited access to institutional backing, restricted professional business networks, and persistent deficits in digital expertise.
Digital Upskilling for Micro-Entrepreneurs
In addition to incubating technology startups, the initiative includes a dedicated capacity-building track for female small-business owners. The ministry aims to provide comprehensive digital skills training to 200 female micro-entrepreneurs on an annual basis.
This training curriculum will center on the practical deployment of digital tools and tech-based solutions. Participating micro-entrepreneurs will be guided on utilizing these platforms to streamline their internal business operations, expand customer outreach, and integrate their products into online marketplaces.
Expanding Participation in the Digital Economy
The ministry’s plan reflects broader institutional efforts to integrate women into emerging technologies and higher-value economic activities across Pakistan. By combining direct startup support with grassroots digital enablement, the programme aims to provide women with the resources needed to convert technical knowledge into viable commercial enterprises.
Through these interventions, the WISE Lab is intended to foster new avenues of economic participation for women, strengthening both small enterprises and high-growth ventures while contributing to the overall expansion of the national digital ecosystem.
